Falling in love at first sight is an intense emotional experience that not too many people encounter in their lives. Many people even mock the concept and name it an impossibility. They think it is not possible to fall in love with someone at first sight. The only people who can refute them are the ones who have actually fallen in love at first sight.
The sensation of falling in love at first sight is absolutely remarkable. Your eyes spot 'the one' amidst a crowd of people and your heart skips a beat. Your palms are sweating, your throat is dry and your heart is beating much faster than usual. You feel dizzy and as if the world is spinning around you and that person feels like the most beautiful man/ woman in the world at that moment in time. Yes this is what love at first sight feels like, a roller-coaster ride of love! These lines from Henry Purcell's 17th century opera, 'If Love's a Sweet Passion' explain the phenomenon of Love At First Sight. |

“If Love's a Sweet Passion, why does it torment?
If a Bitter, oh tell me whence comes my content?
Since I suffer with pleasure, why should I complain,
Or grieve at my Fate, when I know 'tis in vain?
Yet so pleasing the Pain is, so soft is the Dart,
That at once it both wounds me, and Tickles my Heart”
The concept of being in love at first sight has been seen in many pieces of literary work. Some of the greatest love stories of all time have their characters falling for each other at first sight. The most famous example of love at first sight in literature is William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Here the star crossed lovers fall instantly in love with each other on seeing each other for the first time. Other examples of love at first sight in literary works are:
The French novel by Victor Hugo called Les Misérables
Ariosto's Orlando furioso
Tasso's Jerusalem
